At Hampshire Staircase Refurbishment, we take immense pride in our team’s dedication, both professionally and personally. One of our own, Sean Tillett, is not just a skilled employee but also an inspiring individual who is training for the London Marathon 2025. His journey, marked by perseverance, passion, and a deep personal connection, is a testament to the human spirit and the power of resilience.
Nine weeks into his marathon training, Sean’s story is one of incremental victories and relentless determination. Starting with a modest 3.2-mile run, Sean quickly ramped up his efforts, completing a 13.1-mile half marathon by the seventh week. His next goal is to run 10 miles comfortably and eventually reach a point where he can run a half marathon every four weeks. This ambitious plan showcases Sean’s unwavering commitment to his training regimen.
However, like any journey worth undertaking, Sean’s path has not been without its hurdles. Recently, he faced his first major setback an injury three miles into a run. Describing the pain as sharp, Sean had to stop and reassess. Undeterred, he remains optimistic, planning to stretch out his legs at the gym and hoping for a swift recovery. This resilience in the face of adversity is a hallmark of Sean’s character and serves as an inspiration to all of us.
What fuels Sean’s marathon aspirations goes beyond personal achievement. In his words: “My mum is always my biggest motivation. I think about her every time I run and I always imagine her watching me cross the finish line of the London Marathon, even though unfortunately her condition will prevent that from happening.” Sean’s mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s at just 55 years old. The rapid progression of the disease has been a heart-wrenching experience for Sean, as he witnesses her lose cherished memories and basic abilities.
Sean’s journey is fuelled by his ambition to raise awareness and funds for the Alzheimer’s Society. To date, he has raised an impressive £490 towards his £2000 goal. This early success is a testament to the support from friends, family, and the community. Every step Sean takes is a stride towards finding a cure for Alzheimer’s and supporting those affected by this debilitating disease.
In addition to his fundraising efforts, Sean’s training has led to personal health benefits, including a weight loss of 17 pounds, with hopes of shedding at least another stone. His physical transformation mirrors his emotional and mental growth throughout this journey.
